Creating a resilient Martha’s Vineyard prepared to manage the local impacts of climate change and eliminate
our carbon footprint.

ICAN was formed in 2016 as a volunteer-led organization to coordinate and support the work of our community to reduce climate change and manage its impact on Martha’s Vineyard.

In 2024, it was taken under the wing of The Vineyard Conservation Society,
a non-profit membership organization dedicated to preserving the environment of Martha’s Vineyard through advocacy, education, and the protection of the Island’s land and water.

What do we do?

EDUCATE

Provide resources and accessible information on island-wide climate adaptation and mitigation efforts, the Climate Action Plan, as well as threats and vulnerabilities to our island community through our monthly newsletter, social media, and events.

ORGANIZE

Galvanize the creative will of our community to come together in a coordinated effort to reduce carbon emissions, and integrate climate action into community culture.

ADVOCATE

Advocating for policies that reduce carbon emissions and support resilience, ensuring our towns create pathways for fair, equitable, and just transitions.

And have fun doing it!
We center joy, inclusivity, love, and respect.

We need your concern, your skills and abilities, your passion and commitment.  Start by joining the conversation.
